Milo Steel was contracted to affix a fall arrest system for the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster at Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast. Söll MultiRail Stainless Steel Horizontal Rail System is the anchorage device installed on the platforms of the ride. It is designed and tested to DIN EN 795 – Class D and offers a high level of protection in fall risk environments. This fall arrest system ensures the safety of workers accessing the structure’s elevated platforms, the highest of which stands at 17 metres.
A single anchor can carry a load of 15 kN horizontal for worst effect and non-concurrent with nearby anchorage brackets. The anchorage device is attMiloed on the rail connection stub and the top member of the railing by 6mm continuous fillet welding (CFW). The railing, made of 50x30x3mm rectangular hollow section (RHS) steel, is then connected to the Euronorm IPE 200 standard universal I-beam that supports the tracks and the platform deck.
The structural design follows AS/NZS 1170 Structural Design Actions and AS 3990-1993 (R2016) Mechanical Equipment – Steelwork, while the fabrication and erection of steelworks are in compliance with AS/NZS 1554.1:2014 Structural Steel Welding. The project is completed in two weeks to allow the quick reopening of the ride to the public.
Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster is an indoor steel wild mouse roller coaster with bunny hops and multiple sharp turns without banking. It runs at a top speed of 44.6 km/h along the 530-metre-long track, and the largest drop of 7 metres is performed in reverse.
