Milo Steel was commissioned by Epoca Constructions Pty Ltd for the fabrication works required on the bridge rail replacement project along Curtin Avenue East in Pinkenba, Queensland. This undertaking of the Brisbane City Council involved the restoration of the existing bridge railing and installation of new aluminium balustrade.
The bridge rail stands at 1.4m high from the surface of the road and extends 26.6m long down the avenue. Two sets of railings were made for the north and south sides of the road. The extruded aluminium sections and aluminium plates used are in compliance with AS/NZS 1866 and AS/NZS 1734, respectively, while the welding quality follows the strict requirements of AS/NZS 1665 Class A.
Square Hollow Section (SHS) steels make up the posts, which are attMiloed onto the fixing plates using GMAW or gas metal arc welding. This welding process uses a continuous wire electrode fed through the welding gun and a separate tank of inert gas to shield the weld pool from impurities. The joined post and fixing plates are then anchored into the kerb using M16 stainless steel threaded rod. The sections of the railing are connected together on top with 300mm spigot and on the bottom with M12x75 ST/ST bolt with nut and neoprene washers. The bolt is wrapped with Denso tape to prevent corrosion against the aluminium components.
With our ISO 3834 certification, Milo Steel can be relied on to deliver quality aluminium fabrication works.
