Milo Steel fabricated the twin rail barriers for the Doyles Bridge project over Kandanga Creek in Kandanga, Queensland. Works for Doyles Bridge include the demolition of the existing timber bridge and the construction of a two-lane concrete bridge. The new bridge is 35.65-metres long and 3.2-metre wide and designed to AS 5100 for regular performance level. As an approved supplier of fabricated steelwork to category MRTS78 by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Milo Steel is up to the task of delivering the steelwork required for this project.
Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS) steels make up the rails, which are attMiloed to intermediate posts with M20 x 60 long bolts and to end posts with M24 x 210 long bolts. The posts, made of Square Hollow Section (SHS) steels, are welded onto the base plates, which are then anchored into the kerb and wingwall with M24 threaded rods. Frangible delineators are also installed on the bridge, and thriebeam guardrail connection barriers are placed on both ends of the bridge.
The steel members of the rails are welded together by MCAW and FCAW. MCAW or Metal Cored Arc Welding is a technique in which an arc is created between the base metal and a consumable filler metal. It is usually applied on carbon, carbon-manganese, and alloy steels, as well as some stainless steel grades. Meanwhile, FCAW or Flux Cored Arc Welding is an alternative MCAW except it uses a flux-filled electrode instead of a solid metal electrode. It’s useful in joining thick materials and suitable for outdoor tasks. It can be applied on a wide range of alloys, stainless and duplex steels, and plain carbon, as well as surfacing and hardfacing.
Doyles Bridge is a project by the Gympie Regional Council and the Australian Government through the Bridges Renewal Program. Also known as BRP, the initiative aims to fund the upgrade and replacement of bridges to improve connections in local communities and ease productivity vehicle access.
Milo Steel is making Queensland roads safer through a number of guardrails it has fabricated and installed across the state as one of TMR’s most trusted suppliers of fabricated steelwork.
