Milo Steel was commissioned by Dunstans Constructions to design, fabricate and supply the structural steel for the drill rig stabiliser in the Nerang River Crossing Project. A drill rig stabiliser holds the BHA or bottom hole assembly in the borehole to prevent sidetracking and vibrations. Our beam arrangement transmitted the load from the drill rig to the pipe casing. This project required 410UB and fitted it with gusset plates, anti-crush tubing, and 16mm fixing plates. The welds underwent and passed Magnetic Particle Inspection and Ultrasonic Testing. Both are non-destructive testing methods used to determine cracks and defects in the components.
The Nerang River Crossing Project is one of the largest horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossings in the country. The $10 million project forms part of the Gold Coast City Council’s Long Term Recycled Water Release Plan, which aims to address the city’s excess recycled water.
